We offer

The theme of the course is to expand awareness and experience of the voice and the importance of voice timbre in professional communication.

In particular, we focus on the practicing psychologist's own use of voice in interaction with their surroundings.

The course is aimed at all practicing psychologists in various fields and arenas.

With this course we want to:

  • To allow individual psychologists to gain experience of their own unique voice and its significance for professional practice.

  • To contribute to the relevant further development of a healthy and creative use of voice in the midst of a demanding everyday life in and outside of therapy sessions

  • To contribute to theoretical reflection on the same topic

With this course, we hope to:

  • That the individual has gained an ear and an eye for the sound of conversation in the therapeutic space

  • That the individual is inspired to vocal self-renewal based on the sounding body through concrete exercises.

  • That the course's joint reflections will provide new perspectives on conversation and language use in everyday life.

The course will consist of:

  • The course will consist of an update of relevant psychological research on the perception of voice in close interaction with practical exercises and experience with your own voice.

  • Practical exercises include

  •  Anatomical awareness as a basis for healthy sound production

  • Exercises to optimize a resonant body.

  • The importance of the vocal timbre for communication

  • Concrete work with your own voice - both together and with personal guidance in a group

Teaching methodology

The course is led by psychology specialist Per Isdahl and vocal educator and voice artist Ruth Wilhelmine Meyer in close collaboration.

By letting research on and concrete experiences with one's own voice go hand in hand and inspire each other, we want to create a vibrant, knowledgeable and dynamic course that is adapted to psychologists' knowledge assumptions.

Each module contains an interplay between practical exercises, research and experience-based theory, as well as shared reflections.

Course format

The course will be an interaction between theory and practice, alternating between practical exercises and experiences, lectures based on current research literature on the topic and joint reflections in plenary. The guidance is based on the concrete estimates provided by the group participants. The individual participant will thus also receive personal feedback.
